Kami-no-aisuru

One of the problems I have with fashion in SL is the mis-naming of any dress with a poofy skirt as a “lolita” dress. I feel this has lead a lot of people who aren’t that familar with the Japanese street fashion from whence it came, to think they’re “Lolitas” when they’re really just wearing a big skirt and little else. I come from a point of view of respecting the original street fashion and following it’s points. When I wear lolita-clothing, usually it’s a very classic Elegant Gothic Lolita style, very conservative, mostly black & white, properly accessorized. Proper Lolita is the entire look, not just a dress with a poof skirt-a full ensemble, complete with head-wear, appropriate shoes & stockings, accessories to carry like parasols, bags, dolls. Even lolita styles that aren’t as conservative as EGL are still full and well-thought-out complete ensembles, and considerably more demure than many SL versions of “lolita” style. I wanted to do a post featuring some Lolita ensembles, first off a classic sweetloli outfit:

These amazing shoes are new from The Black Canary, and Morrigan has gone above & beyond in creating perfect EGL shoes here, just amazing. I’m carrying my DP YumYum doll, which is very cute, but my sincerest wish is someone in SL would make a Super Dolfie (since I can’t afford one IRL, hehe).

These shoes, again, gorgeous new work by the always-amaing G-Field. Their shoes are as nice and well-done as many shoes that are twice or three times their price. Everyone should shop at G-Field, seriously. And if you haven’t checked out the WAKA & Yuki sim yet, why in heck not? I remember when I first rezzed, W&Y was a tiny shop where all the hair was like 20L, and they have come so far since then, their hair is truly wonderful and their shop is beautiful.

A sweet little ode to dark blue & navy, I love the classic crispness you get when pairing dark blue with white or ivory. Usually it might seem to be the color of business, formality, professionalism, the Navy-but here I’ve chosen to use it in a sweeter more romantic way. It’s less harsh than black when paired with white and it sets off blondes perfectly.

I’d been waiting with great anticipation for these absolutely beautiful wreath-crowns to get released and the minute they were I flew on down there to get one, the prims were still warm from the oven Saiyge Lotus of Balderdash does some amazingly gorgeous prim work in her jewelry and these crowns are no different. Her style has a very pretty, delicate touch which can be hard to find in SL with so many things being oversized. If you’re a smaller avatar like I am, you need to look at Saiyge’s jewelry too, which is the perfect size to fit, right out of the box and doesn’t seem too large or too heavy on a smaller avatar.You have to zoom in on this crown to appreciate the details, tiny holly berries sparkling among evergreen branches created with such accuracy that you’ll be amazed. There are two other colors besides the evergreen and she’s got some lovely iced branch crowns too. I paired it with one of the holiday dresses from Edelweiss which I’ve been wanting for some time and my favorite ice skates in SL, Bax Coens skates.

This is my favorite time of the year and I look forward to spending the rest of the winter on my skates enjoying the virtual snow.

OK so in my travels around the grid, seeing good subject matter to post on What The Fug? I have been seeing the same corset a few times recently. It’s very nicely done and the textures are wonderful, and of course it’s mostly prim, so takes some time to fit. Of course this awesomeness comes from The Abyss. It’s not cheap at $400L but The Abyss isn’t known for being a budget-shopping kind of place. I fell in love with it, and it’s such a classic goth look I wanted to put together that kind of ensemble.

What’d I get out of the BBBC? A reaffermation of the idea that I’m a shite blogger and I don’t have the inspiration to write stuff every day. I love reading blogs, some people can have me rolling in the aisles just describing their recent shopping trips or what they did that day: I’m simply not that entertaining, and I can be funny but not witty enough to keep interest in day-to-day minutae. Oh swells. On to more pressing matters.

Like hair!

Oh dear lord it’s Hair Fair time again and it will be a madhouse, but fun and balance-draining! I try to take a conservative approach to these crazy events and force myself to hold off for a few days to try to let the crowds clear. I’d love to be there first too but lag irritates me so much, specifically rubberbanding… something about that just angers me so much that I’d rather turn the computer off and walk away. So I’ll try to satiate myself with pictures on blogs and stuff and the Koreshan Bake Sale and try to hold off until at least the weekend’s over.

But I got my own little preview even though I’m not a supastar blagghr because my good friend Katat0nik sent me copies of her 3 hairdos for the fair, and let me tell you these are too sweet to be missed! All music themed, but totally scripted so the headphones and music notes can be invisible if you want. Change the size, colors, go nuts! Loves! It’s been really cool over the past year to see Kat really blossom as a creator/designer and she really just keeps getting better and better.

Please do remember when you go to HF that it will be a laggy whore and to ditch all your shit… hair, shoes, AO, Mysti, Huddles and FOR FUCKS SAKE scripted shit like weapons. WTF is wrong with some people anyway? it’ll help everybody out and you best know I will be sans all my shit and duck walking, and if I see your ass and you have a bunch of crap on, chances are you’ll join my giant mute list. Play nice and buy hair and look fucking fabulous some other time! <3

so much happenings. I’ve thought about a million times that “I need to go post some of this stuff” but haven’t. I’ve been really busy in SL, it seems I’m always doing 18 things at once. Rebuilding my house has been a big priority, I think this is “the one” finally, after several fresh builds. I found a place that I took as my inspiration because it was so incredible and fit my aesthetic, it’s going to be in a sort of “industrial pagoda” style, with a little bit of cyber on the side. picture Blade Runner does residential… hopefully The build is turning out nice, and looks better than some of the schlocky crap I turned out for my house in the past couple months.

I’ve been trying to build a business. I got ahold of a little 512 on the mainland and decided the best use for it would be as a mainstore. I’ve made a separate blog for all businessy things & new releases and whatnot.

So pictures and such will be over there. YES I have several plans for new content and thats on the stove too, working with everything else. I did get the opportunity to make something for a hunt and that was fun but I just don’t think I’m all that great at clothing.

I had the opportunity to participate in the great bunny hunt at Silent Sparrow and managed (finally and after some foolhardy purchases) to find a Fog bunny. Inside was the Devana dress in the limited edition Fog color and according to the initial notecard, theres only 25 of these on the grid.

Getting to wear such a thing is a real honor, and of course it’s a beautiful dress.

I also went and got the new ER F-Type girl robot avatar. Theres been a lot of buzz about this over at SLU because the creator has been posting his progress. It’s a really stunning avatar that’s pretty unusual. And it’s mod, so it’s fully customizable (and encouraged!). I didn’t do a whole lot to mine but I did add a skirt on to it from an outfit I already had from Bare Rose. I made the color scheme to match the rocket jetpack (really nice!) sort of a blue purple like burning rocket fuel.

and OF COURSE I was busy with the CSR hunt, I took most of a day to do it! I’ll try to get pictures of my prizes and post them.

I’ve been neglecting my flickr too, will try to update that. I did get a couple pictures of the fog and also Katat0nik’s Malice dress (also limited) which I was so happy to get a chance to buy. Another lovely piece for my wardrobe which is being taken over by Kata. I have a plan to do a Alice in Wonderland tableau featuring her Alice dress. That will be on flickr.

Started playing Tiny Empires. It seems ok so far. It’s fans are… rabid to say the least. Is it wrong to only want to play something because eventually it will deem you to be a princess?

Also I’ve been thinking a bit about relationships. It’s really nice that so many people I know are finding someone to be with in SL, but it does make me wonder about myself. I guess it’s a true statement about my personality that I can’t seem to do the “hooking up” thing in any world, real or virtual. I didn’t really expect SL to be different because personalities are the same really but sometimes I get a bit lonely, and get reminded of it when seemingly everyone is getting hitched. I’m not expressing this right at all I dont’ think. I’m so happy for people, I really am. But it does remind me every time that romantic relationships are just something I can’t ever seem to acquire. The other night while I was wearing the Fog gown I decided it would be nice to go dancing and hit up some places on the advice of the Ch’know people. I couldn’t even find a dance partner. It just gets a little depressing sometimes.
